With PBP looming, I was starting to get a little antsy about my preparations. My planned (and, on schedule) approach had been to do what got me ready for the Sept and Oct 1000k rides last year.
I had been thinking of tackling Tony's July 4th 300k with its midnight start. The ride wasn't a concern, but the 14 hours of round trip driving struck me as crazy.
However, seeing the Ancienes from NC as well as some local friends off riding mountains in Vermont and doing training on the Blue Ridge Parkway had been worrying me.

I mean, like last year, most of my “training” involved doing my commute route as often as possible combined with weekend rides after having completed the SR series plus a couple of extras. This years weekend rides involved 100 milers with an ice cream stop 2/3 the way through.
Didn’t sound very tough to me, on further reflection.
So, I came to the difficult decision that I needed something challenging.
Well, nothing says challenge like ….the EASTERN SHORE!!
Yeah, buddy!
500 feet (maybe it’s better if I call it “SIX THOUSAND inches”) of climbing!!
Challenging traffic
Well, it’s ALWAYS windy there, right.
Forecast, 5mph. Out of the North. Oh. Yeah. That means a tail wind for the return leg.
Temperatures expected to be upper 70s to low 80’s.
Aw, to hell with training. I just want to ride my bike.
Had a great day.
Beat that.
